Dear readers and supporters,
I’m pleased to report that our year-end campaign has exceeded our goals. Our current tally is $783,000. We continue to process gifts, but I wanted to report this wonderful result.
First Things is a community of sentiment. We believe in the gracious authority of God, who guides us toward the fullness of life. We enjoy the opportunities for reflection that come from astute and patient analysis. The imperial claims of today’s politics and round-the-clock news cycle must be resisted.
But we do not ignore politics. We recognize our responsibilities as citizens and engage in public debate, informed by theological and moral truth. America’s constitutional principles are sound, but they do not require that God’s Word be kept out of public debate.
The great success of the campaign shows the strength of the First Things community. Along with the entire staff, I am deeply grateful. The generous donations of so many readers indicates a trust in our work that is humbling. I pledge to honor that trust. First Things will continue to speak the truth—in love, yes, but also with vigor and courage.
