. . . Here’s what I said to the BIG THINKERS, before reading Pete’s higher pay grade comments for a more refined audience. I agree with ceaser that Romney’s darn competence remains obvious, but will competence prevail given the ideological primary electorate? Bachmann did get Perry to grovel, and groveling before that misunderestimated woman is what did Pawlenty in.

Pawlenty endorsed Romney—tonedeaf embraced tonedeaf? And Bobby Jindhal endorsed Perry while being obviously open to being on his ticket.

I don’t think anything that bad happened to Perry, but the openings are there (I hope—begining with the crony capitalism, maybe he can’t be bought for 5K, but he suggested he did have his price). It’s been said that electing Perry would be the greatest Republican victory ever—because he offers moderates and independents almost nothing on the level of either style or substance. But surely there’s no way to win without them.
