The Occasional Calendar — 10.8.10

Events of possible interest to our readers:

Catholic, Orthodox, Polish National Catholic, and Anglican speakers will discuss Dominus Iesus on its tenth anniversary on October 15th at the University of Scranton.

Peter van Inwagen to lecture on Bertrand Russell on Evidence and Religious Belief . The Franciscan University philosophy department’s annual Edith Stein Lecture will be given on Friday, October 22th, at 4:00 p.m. in the Gallery in the J. C. Williams Center. Van Inwagen is the Cardinal O’Hara Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame.

And a philosopher, two theologians, and a parish priest who’s a bit of both (our friend Father George Rutler) will talk about John Henry Newman in celebration of his beatification at Fordham University’s Manhattan campus on October 23rd, after Mass at the Church of St. Peter the Apostle.

Please send any suggestions you have to tips@firstthings.com . I’d be particularly grateful for Protestant, Orthodox, and Jewish events, since I get fewer notes about them than about Catholic events.
