Summer Seminars at the Witherspoon Institute

The Witherspoon Institute (where I direct the William E. and Carol G. Simon Center on Religion and the Constitution) is now accepting applications for the following seminars:

Moral Life and the Classical Tradition: for rising high school juniors and seniors, with readings in Plato and Aristotle, and discussion of contemporary moral issues from a Judeo-Christian perspective.  June 14-20 for young women, June 21-27 for young men, both on the campus of Princeton University; application deadline April 1.

Medical Ethics: A Natural Law Perspective: for medical students, a seminar that covers issues of autonomy, the doctor-patient relationship, the limits of medicine, and other issues.  June 21-27 in Princeton; application deadline March 16.

Natural Law and Public Affairs: for advanced undergraduate and early graduate students, a seminar bringing natural law reasoning to bear on contemporary controversies in politics and public policy.  July 15-19 in Princeton; application deadline March 2.

First Principles: Natural Law and the Theologico-Political Question: for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, covering readings by Thomas Aquinas, Thomas More, Eric Voegelin, and Pierre Manent, plus documents of the Vatican on p0litical life, and texts of the American founding.  July 19 to August 1 in Princeton; application deadline March 1.

Thomistic Seminar: Aquinas and Contemporary Ethics: for graduate students in philosophy and related fields.  August 2-8 in Princeton; application deadline March 16.

Moral Foundations of Law: for law students and graduate students in jurisprudence, a seminar in moral and legal philosophy. August 9-15 in Princeton; application deadline March 16.
