Senate Rejects Pro-Life Amendment to Health Care Bill

The Nelson-Hatch amendment, which would prohibit the use of Federal funds for abortions in the health care legislation, was defeated in the Senate yesterday by a vote of 54-45.

According to the official roll , two Republicans voted against the amendment (Collins and Snowe, both of Maine) while six Democrats voted in favor of the pro-life measure (Bayh of IN, Casey of PA, Conrad of ND, Dorgan of ND, Nelson of NE, Pryor of AR).

54 Senators voted to use your money to fund abortions; 45 voted to protect the unborn. Elections matter.
