Palin’s Daughter Pregnant: Doesn’t Consider the Baby a “Punishment”

Everything is Oprah!

Apparently, Governor Sarah Palin’s daughter is pregnant and will marry the father. From the story:

“We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us,” the Palins’ statement said. “Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support,” the Palins said.

I don’t know how this will impact the campaign, if at all. But look for there to be a sharp contrast drawn between the Palin family’s loving acceptance of the new child, with Senator Barack Obama’s statement that he wouldn’t want his daughters “punished with a baby” if they made a “mistake.”

As I ponder all of this, I think McCain/Palin versus Obama/Biden vividly reflects the cultural divisions that are tearing our society apart more starkly than any election in my memory.
