Palestine Israel

Coming soon to a church near you, if you’re unfortunate: The World Council of Churches is sponsoring the World Week for Peace in Palestine Israel [sic] from May 29th to June 4th. They take one side:

The week calls participants to seek justice for Palestinians so that both Israelis and Palestinians can finally live in peace. It is now more than 60 years since the partition of Palestine hardened into a permanent nightmare for Palestinians. It’s more than 40 years since the occupation of East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza overwhelmed the peaceful vision of one land, two peoples.

Yet the dream of one nation cannot be fulfilled at the expense of another.

  • t’s time for Palestinians and Israelis to share a just peace.
  • It’s time for freedom from occupation.
  • It’s time for equal rights.
  • It’s time for the healing of wounded souls.

One would expect at least a nod to the complexity of the situation, but no. In a press release from the Simon Wiesenthal Center , Rabbi Abraham Cooper says

While pledged to seek peace and justice for both Israelis and Arabs, for the 62 years of the Jewish State’s existence, the WCC has never had any time at all for Israel. It never issued a single response to Arab attempts to annihilate it, to drive the Jews into the sea, to mass murder Jews at prayer through suicide bombings. It was as silent about Ahmadinejad’s call to wipe Israel off the face of the globe as it was to Hitler’s similar calls decades earlier. It is remarkably fixated on the single democracy in the Middle East, while it cannot find its voice in countries that criminalize the practice of Christianity and tolerate the murder of Christians.

This suggests one other reason Why Evangelicals Love the Jews : Liberal Protestants sponsor things like the World Week for Peace in Palestine Israel.

Dear Reader,

Can I be direct with you?

War abroad. Socialists on the rise. AI upending human life. Endless uproar online. The modern attention economy doesn’t want readers — it wants users enslaved to the tyranny of the present.

First Things is the antidote: literary excellence, timeless truths, and a fixed point of reference in a culture that has lost its bearings.

But we can’t do it without readers like you.

Our goal: Raise $150,000 by November 1 to sustain First Things in the year ahead.

Your gift anchors readers in the permanent things.
