On gratitude

On thanksgiving, just a few hours before black friday, i invite you to read a (longish) essay on gratitude, just published in the Policy Review. It has a section on the holiday of thanksgiving, and it previews, without exactly predicting, President Obama’s omission (according to news reports) of any mention of God in his address this year, which marks a first for Thanksgiving proclamations. James Ceaser is an American political scientist. He is the Harry F. Byrd Professor of Politics, and the director of the Program on Constitutionalism and Democracy, at the University of Virginia, where he has taught since 1976.
