The doctor who implanted six embryos in the Octomom, leading to eight births (two of the embryos twinned), has been kicked out of a voluntary medical society. From the story:
Dr Michael Kamrava, the doctor who gave fertility treatment to “Octomom” Nadya Suleman has been expelled from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Miss Suleman gave birth to eight babies on Jan 26. She already had six children, all conceived through IVF. Sean Tipton, a spokesman for the ASRM, said Dr Kamrava had repeatedly violated the group’s standards. He said the doctor had not been expelled because of his work with any single patient…ASRM guidelines recommend transfer of only one or two embryos in patients under 35.
Recommendations, schmecommendations: Who are the ASRM to tell a woman what to do with her body? If she wants six embryos implanted, that’s what she wants! Or, would “choice” only apply if she had wanted six or seven of the fetuses aborted through “selective reduction?”
That point aside, what do you call a physician kicked out of the ASRM? Answer: Doctor.
