Talk about lying about the bill: President Obama and the Democrats have repeatedly assured the country that Obamacare would not cover abortion and that, in any event, the Hyde Amendment would prevent federal funding. Almost surely wrong on the first point and absolutely wrong on the second. Hyde only applies to money appropriated for the Dept. of Health and Human Services. But the money to fund payments to doctors and facilities from the “public option” would not come from the HHS appropriations bill ,and hence, Hyde is irrelevant. Thus, if the Secretary of HHS decides that the public plan will cover abortion—which she almost surely will do as permitted by the recently passed Capps Amendment—federal money would indeed be spent to fund abortions. Sneaky.
