07_Stem Cell Hype vs Hope
We are often told that those with illnesses and disabilities—especially celebrities such as Michael J. Fox and Mary Tyler Moore—should be listened to since they have absolute moral authority due to their conditions. Well, James Kelly, who is the speaker in this video, is paraplegic from an auto accident. He too is a stem cell activist. But rather than supporting ESCR and cloning, he believes our best and most efficacious approach would be to focus on adult and umbilical cord blood stem cells for therapeutic purposes. If being “a patient” trumps almost all, then shouldn’t Kelly’s opinion be as important in this debate as those of Fox, Moore, and Christopher Reeve?
