First Things seeks an associate editor to join its New York office. A qualified applicant must have familiarity with the magazine and a genuine interest in the magazine’s work on religion, culture, and public life.
This is an editor’s position rather than a writer’s position. Proofreading and copy-editing skills are necessary, but the job primarily entails rewrite and line-editing work: construction of ledes, reordering of arguments, trimming of prose, restatement of conclusions, etc. The associate editor will participate in the magazine’s production and will be expected to contribute ideas for the magazine and First Things Online .
