Exit, Stage Left?

Sorry that I have had so little to say about anything in the last few days. This morning’s Drudge Report headline grabbed me, though it comes from the Weekly Standard.   Today, a meeting at the White House between the president, Hillary Clinton and the vice president.  What is really interesting is that this must be in response to Mitt Romney raising Paul Ryan to the VP spot on the Republican ticket and only secondarily to VP Biden’s stunning ability to say shocking things.  The undeniable boost to the Romney campaign of the addition of Ryan redefined the whole election.  If the president can convince Hillary to leave her power job for an almost no power job, the two campaigns would be similarly propelled more by the second name on the ticket than by the first.

Is there a precedent for this in American politics?
