Cosmetic Surgery Kills

I am not a fan of the cosmetic surgery industrial complex.  As I wrote the other day, I think it promotes hedonism, takes scarce resources—including of the human kind—out of the healing sector, and promotes unreal standards of beauty.

I should have added that it can also be dangerous.  Any doctor can do plastic surgery.  I recall when I worked with Nader, I remember learning of a bad OB/gyn with little training in cosmetic surgery hanging out his shingle and hurting a lot of people with botched procedures. And now, a former Miss Argentina has died because she wanted her butt to look better. From the stored:

A 38-year-old former Miss Argentina has died from complications after undergoing cosmetic surgery on her buttocks. Solange Magnano, a mother of twins who won the crown in 1994, died of a pulmonary embolism Sunday after three days in critical condition following a gluteoplasty in Buenos Aires. Close friend Roberto Piazza said the procedure involved injections and the liquid “went to her lungs and brain. A woman who had everything lost her life to have a slightly firmer behind,” he said.

That says it all, doesn’t it?
