An Ambien Awakening, or “Never Give Up Hope!”

Scientists have known for a few years that Ambien can awaken people diagnosed in an unconscious condition. (I first wrote about it back in 2006.) The above NYT video illustrates the great potential here.

Note please, that doctors urged Chris’s parents to stop treating him, which probably meant to dehydrate him to death by taking him off tube sustenance. Had the parents done so, he wouldn’t have lived for this potential breakthrough.  As the mother in the embedded video said, “Never give up hope.”

Speaking of which: Today should have been Terri Schiavo’s 48th birthday.
