Virtue and the Logic of Liberty

This is your opportunity to view a really fine whole conference on your computer through “streaming video.” If you want to see ME, click on the Locke panel, where I ambiguously endorsed some of the features of the “pink” Locke presented by Brown’s Professor Tomasi. There’s also a quick and eloquent summary of the Lee Ward “personal identity Locke” (which I also endorsed) by, of course, Lee Ward. My brief talk is a on why “Lockean narrative” of American history can explain why the road to serfdom never gets to serfdom.

You can also see Tim Fuller more or less take Alasdair MacIntyre down (which I liked): AM is almost silent on theology, silly on politics, and confused on philosophy. And if you’re wondering what that “new natural law” stuff is all about (or why new natural law isn’t an oxymoron), there’s a panel that serves as a fine introduction to its premises and its faith-based critics.

Also: Hadley Arkes is just getting bolder and more original in his thinking. Someone might say he’s trying to replace constitutional law with “moral reasoning,” which would only be good if judges were philosophers as wise as Hadley. Hadley, of course, might now be the best performer around these days in political science.
