The New York Times declares that
President Obama has said that the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy “will end on my watch.” But the Department of Justice, following its tradition of defending laws passed by Congress, has fought efforts by the Log Cabin Republicans, a gay organization, to overturn the policy.
Not according to Ed Whelan , it’s not. “The political appointees at DOJ,” he argues, and these include Attorney General Eric Holder and then-Solicitor General Elena Kagan, now on the Supreme Court,
have been only pretending to mount a vigorous defense of DADT while in fact operating to undermine it. Unfortunately, you can expect that same charade to continue through the course of an appeal to the Ninth Circuit.”
Not what we pay them for, certainly.
