Somehow escaping
The sharp eye
Of angels, shepherds,
And magi,
Thieves snatch the infant
From the crèche
To spirit God off
In the flesh.

The thieves’ intent
To massacre
The innocent

To take flight.
To empty Christmas

Would seem the purpose

Unless the abject
And forlorn

To feel newborn

They gain a love

With planted chip,
The Nazarene
Restores the lost

And covers crime
