Young John Rose…

Young John Rose, one of our marvelous interns at FIRST THINGS, reminds me that a major lecture will be delivered here in New York on Tuesday, October 25, by Cardinal Avery Dulles¯although I guess Avery Cardinal Dulles is the right way to render that name, “cardinal” being a nobility marker rather than a job title, like “Alfred, Lord Tennyson,” for instance, instead of “President Benjamin Harrison.” Still, it always makes me think of the great St. Louis baseball players we Catholic schoolboys used to call “Lou Cardinal Brock” and “Ozzie Cardinal Smith.”

Anyway, Cardinal Dulles will be delivering “Pope Benedict XVI: Interpreter of Vatican II,” as Fordham University’s annual McGinley Lecture on October 25, 8 p.m., on Fordham’s Rose Hill Campus. The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow. For further information, call (718) 817-4745, or email mcgchair@fordham.edu .
