Vermont Doesn’t Pass Assisted Suicide, Creates Publicly Funded Universal Health Care System

Vermont is San Francisco as a state, and thus it always bears watching when its part time legislature is in session.  First, as I predicted, Vermont did not legalize assisted suicide.  That’s good.

Second, it did establish a publicly funded health system.  From the Boston Globe story:

The Vermont House has given final approval to an ambitious plan to move Vermont toward a universal, publicly funded health care system… The bill first sets up a new health care marketplace — or “exchange,” called for under federal health care legislation passed last year. By 2017, if not sooner, it’s expected the exchange will form the basis for the new Green Mountain Care program.Key questions left for later include how the system will be paid for.

Ah yes, that is the rub isn’t it?  Paying for it.
