On Wednesday, November 13, Fr. Maciej Zieba, O.P., came to the New York office to give a talk on the theory and practice of solidarity. His reflections were grounded in his concrete experiences of life under communist rule. Moving through an analysis of the philosophy of solidarity, especially as seen in the writings of John Paul II, to a history of solidarity in Poland, he emphasized the historically important role of communal action (symbolic or otherwise), the legacy of the great Polish pope, and the joy of freedom.
