Sisters

The sisters, quick
to gather,
like moths to candlewick,
mourn another
sudden death,
with thrumming
talk and measured breath.
Their men succumbing
one by one,
they rally round
the common family good
and carry on,
stoic and sorrowbound,
in widowhood.
