Romney Studies: He Is Like So Weird, You Know?

Jonathan Chait is right  the Obama campaign’s attempt to portray Romney as “weird” is lame.  It is also potentially dangerous.  Is Romney weird?  I dunno, maybe compared to some people (not me, other people.)  But, if Romney is nominated by the Republicans, he won’t be running against just anyone.  He will be running against Obama.  Any attempt to paint Romney as too weird sets the President up for a devastating Romney counterattack if Romney’s campaign has decent political reflexes.  The counterattacks practically write themselves, “We would prefer to talk about things that matter to people like jobs and economic growth.  We don’t understand why the campaign of someone who associated themselves with an unrepentant terrorist [or associated with a  man who blamed the US for the 9/11 attacks or . . . ] would suggest someone else is weird.  President Obama should spend more time worrying about getting the economy back on track and less time throwing rocks from the porch of his glass house.”
