First, President Obama has a long time to get back on track, but voters are not thrilled with what they have seen so far. If the economy improves, he is in good shape, but if it is as it is today, there will be trouble in 2010. Still, that is a long a way away and President Obama is a phenomenal political talent.
Second, the New Jersey win by the GOP and the size of the Virginia win shows that a united Republican Party can win.
Third, the GOP cannot alienate the base, but even in New York in ideal circumstances with some tradition of third party successes conservatives cannot win alone. The GOP should learn, but third party talk (if it had started) is ended by the Hoffman loss.
Fourth, education is a good investment. Pat Robertson ran for President and spent millions and got more votes than Howard Dean . . . but still got little out of it. He started a University and now a graduate is governor of Virginia. Not bad.
Finally, money is not everything in politics. Marriage and the GOP were outspent in Maine and New Jersey by a good bit, but still won. People can see through a media haze and vote they way they wish. Good sign for our republic.
