Nostalgic Liberalism

As Yuval explains, liberals no longer think that History is on their side. So the long for the days when our safety nets were more secure and our lives were more humane and dignified as a result. I might add that one danger that is that our libertarians might come to think too confidently that they are the true progressives. In any event, the Historical road to serfdom is now pretty clearly a road to somewhere else.
