More Reality?

Here’s the poll hyped by Drudge and others that shows Palin (!) within spitting distance of Obama and half the electorate already planning to vote against the president. But it’s still not the case that any particular Republican is actually leading Obama.

I should link—but it’s not a great column—David Brooks’ self-indulgent whining about being a sap in hoping that Obama would be a moderate. As one of the leaders of the Obamacons last time, his plug pulling remains worthy of notice. Will the other Obamacon factions-such as some Porchers and “American conservatives”—be far behind?

Finally, I noticed a comment on FACEBOOK by Steve Hayward comparing Obama’s situation to Carter’s at a similar point in his only term. Carter’s popularity rating was actually lower, but he was still whipping Reagan rather easily in the polls.

Historic parallel: The unexpected tanking of a Democratic incumbent causes someone deemed too conservative to be electable to become president. Is PERRY the new REAGAN? (in that one respect, at least)

I want to add that I knew Ronald Reagan, and Rick, you’re . . . But I won’t.
