At almost every event we hold in the office of First Things, I end up speaking with a college student who expresses a deep gratitude for this magazine. I can relate.
Throughout my undergraduate years, First Things provided a vantage point from which to understand the intellectual trends and fads that swept across campus. It helped me to see things as they are, and it informed my conversations and arguments with peers.
As my time at First Things wraps up, I know that I will continue to be grateful for this magazine and what it stands for: historically informed commentary, religious orthodoxy, and the bold assertion that the world has a knowable structure and discernible purpose. This message, and the attendant convivial printed conversation, allows students to see through the silly relativism that pervades higher education. May the conversation continue!
