Humanities Nonsense

The nonsense many college students are taught “takes three forms: condescension, literature taught as a crossword puzzle, and historicism,” writes Fr. Edward Oakes in Nonsense Drives Them Away , today’s “On the Square” feature. He is describing a new book review by Northwestern University professor Gary Paul Morson, and pondering what really is the nature and value of the humanities.

Thursday’s “On the Square” article, Maureen Mullarkey’s  The Popular Myth of Convivencia , illustrates the problem through a museum exhibit and its catalogue.
