Frequently Asked Questions
I already have a First Things subscription. How can I login?
If you are unable to login to First Things and have an active subscription, please click here to reset your password and use the email you believe is linked to your subscription.
If your email can’t be found, then please follow these steps:
- Please go to our registration page to create a new account. You can use your email of choice.
- Submit a subscription activation request so that we can verify that you have an active subscription and update your account.
How do I change my mailing address?
To change the mailing address of your First Things magazine:
- Go to your Profile.
- Scroll down to “Your Address Information” and update the mailing address.
- Select “Update Address” to confirm the changes.
How do I change my email address?
To change your email address,
- Go to your Profile.
- Under the heading “Your Profile”, enter the updated email address.
- Select “Save Profile Changes” to confirm the change.
How do I subscribe?
To subscribe to First Things, please visit the Subscribe Page:
- Choose a subscription option. From this page you can also gift a subscription.
- If you already have an account, please sign in.
- If applicable, enter your coupon code in the coupon field.
- Complete all fields with your information, doing so will create an account if you do not already have one.
- Select “Continue to Payment” to complete your subscription with your payment.
- Once subscribed, you will receive an email confirming the subscription and payment.
How do I update my payment information?
To update your payment information or payment method, please visit your Profile and follow the steps below. You will need to login and have had an active subscription.
- On your profile page, select “Manage Subscription”
- In the popup, select “Payment Methods” and then select the card you would like to update.
- Follow the prompts to update your payment method.
How do I renew my subscription?
Your subscription will renew automatically unless you subscribed by phone or mail or made an offline payment (check). If you made an offline payment, please enter your payment information online to renew and begin renewing automatically.
To renew your subscription online, please visit your Profile and select “Manage my subscription”. Follow prompts to enter your credit card information and pay for your future subscription term that will begin automatically after the current term ends.
If you do not see “Manage my subscription”, then you do not have an active First Things subscription. Please visit our Subscribe page and choose a subscription option.
To renew by mail, please send checks to our subscriptions office at the address below. Please do not mail your credit card information.

Delivery of my print magazine
Your print magazine is sent out to arrive at the end of the preceding month (e.g. the January issue should arrive at the end of December).
If an issue of the magazine never arrived, you can request a replacement by calling customer support at (877) 905-9920 during normal business hours. If you are in Canada, please call our (903) 636-4306.
For new subscriptions, please expect your first First Things magazine to arrive within 3-6 weeks of subscribing.
Content and Access
Link my subscription to the First Things app
The First Things Digital subscription and Digital + Print subscription does not include access to the First Things app at this time. You can subscribe to the app through the Apple Store or Google Play.
If you are currently subscribed to our legacy iPad plans, you can continue signing into the app with the username and password you created, or by following the steps below to create a user account.
- Open the app, go to “Settings,” then select “Activate Subscription”.
- Use one of the three subscription verification methods using the the information you used to subscribe to First Things (Account & Zip code, Email & Zip code, or Mailing Address).
- Once your subscription is verified, you can create an app account with a username and password specific to the First Things app.
Please note that this activation processes is only possible for legacy iPad + Digital subscribers or iPad + Print subscribers.
Watch past events
You can watch recordings of many past events by visiting our Events page. You can browse for events and select the video link available for a past event. You can also find many recordings directly by navigating to our Youtube channel.
Supported browsers
firstthings.com is supported on all common browsers. For security and stability, we recommend that you use the desktop, iOS, and Android versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Firefox, or Opera.
Subscription options
Student subscription plan
Subscriptions are available to students at a discounted price. Please visit our Student subscription page to request one. You will need a picture or scan of a valid student ID.
Subscriptions for institutions or groups
At this time, we do not offer institutional or group subscriptions.
Gift subscriptions
To purchase a gift subscription, please visit to our Gift Subscriptions page.
What do I do if I am First Things subscriber but was given a gift subscription?
If you have an active First Things subscription that you purchased and you were also gifted a First Things subscription, you will not be charged for the entire term that the gift subscription covers.
Account
Edit my profile
To edit your profile, please go to your Profile page and change your desired information in the fields under “Your Profile.” When you are finished, select “Save Profile Changes.”
Subscription Management
Renew my gift subscription
At this time, First Things does not renew gift subscriptions. If you would like to gift a subscription again, you may purchase a gift here.
Renew subscription
All subscribers are automatically set to renew.
If you chose not to auto-renew, please visit your Profile page, select “Manage My Subscription,” and follow the prompts to renew your subscription.
If you do not see “Manage my subscription,” then you do not have an active First Things subscription. To subscribe, please visit our Subscribe page and choose a subscription option.
Change or cancel my subscription plan
To change your subscription rather than cancel, please visit your Profile page and select “Manage my subscription.” Follow the prompts there to change your subscription option.
To cancel your subscription, please visit your Profile page and select “Manage my subscription.” Please follow the prompts to cancel your subscription immediately or at the end of the billing cycle (non-renewal of subscription).
If you do not see the “Manage my subscription” button, then you do not have an active First Things subscription.
To cancel without logging into your account, please call our customer service line at 1-877-905-9920. Canadian customers, please call 903-636-4306.
Inquire about a credit card charge
To inquire about an charge you don’t recognize in your bank or credit card statement, please visit your Profile and select “Manage my subscription”. Here you can find any historical invoices to verify the payment charged to your card.
Manage my auto-renew preferences
All subscribers are automatically set to renew. If you would like to end your subscription at the end of your current subscription term, please visit your Profile and select “Manage my subscription”. Follow prompts to cancel your subscription at the end of the billing term.
Can I order a single issue of the current magazine or from the magazine archive?
Yes, you can order back issues from our store.
