I have noticed an odd propensity among the generally politically liberal commenters and bloggers on stem cell research. Where some rail against the supposed greed and avarice of the pharmaceutical companies, they praise stem cell researchers to the hilt as altruistic scientific saviors. I never got that. Both are in it for the money, hoping for vasr riches. Both are in it to help people. Researchers in both may desire professional and personal notoriety. Both hope to advance science.
I bring it up because of a story about Stanford scientists rushing to patent a new method aimed at preventing tumor formation in embryonic stem cells, using mice (again demonstrating the need for animal research. http://www.frcblog.com/2011/08/scientists-try-to-decrease-dangerous-tumors-from-embryonic-stem-cells/
I am not saying that is wrong. I am saying that Big Pharma and Big Biotech are same.
