Baby Joseph Moved to St. Louis Hospital

This is good news.  The Canadian hospital trying to impose a futile care-forced termination of life support upon Baby Joseph no longer has control of his care. He is now in St. Louis.  From the story:

“Baby Joseph” was brought to St. Louis overnight where doctors are evaluating his condition, which had been deemed fatal by Canadian doctors. New York-based Priests for Life arranged for Joseph Maraachli, 13 months, to come to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center after several other U.S. hospitals declined to treat the child. The baby’s case has received worldwide attention for the issues it raises about end-of-life care. Joseph was transferred by air “despite the strongest possible medical advice to the contrary,” according to a statement from London Health Sciences Centre in Ontario, Canada.

I was informed about this drama over the weekend, and it seemed for awhile—at least according to my sources—that the transfer might not come off.  (Priests for Life were instrumental in helping to facilitate.  And don’t forget the selfless labors of Alex Schadenberg of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition in helping this family.)  But whatever might have been the case, Baby Joseph is now in other hands and we will see what happens.  More when I know more.
