1. So Pete is right: The Gingrich surge is SC is greater than I expected. The reason seems to be the demagogic debate performance Pete meticulously described. Newt’s only down three! The blog consensus is that he’s almost the favorite now.
2. And there are a couple of blogs explaining that a victory for Gingrich would be good for all the candidates. Romney would get more battlefield experience, Santorum would have time to hone his distinctive message, etc.
3. But if the ABR movement culminates in Gingrich victories, I’m not for it.
4. Pete is right that Gingrich’s campaign at this point is vain and nihilistic. He has way too much baggage to be anything but a disaster against Obama.
5. So a vote for Santorum is not a vote for Romney. It’s not a vote for Gingrich. That would be more than enough for me.
