In his piece for today’s On the Square , Aaron Taylor argues that Francis and Benedict’s comments on gay priests are part of “a robust commitment to defending the dignity of all people.” Gay Catholic men are not called to be priests merely because they are called to be celibate, after all:
Above all, a healthy spiritual approach to homosexuality ought to make clear that gay Christians have a legitimate place within the Body of Christ without having to pretend that they don’t exist by being pressured either into marriage or into becoming closeted priests.
