Jason Bintz writesto offer a gloss on my discussion of 1 Corinthians 6:11 as a baptismal passage . The rest of this post is from Jason:
“I do see in this text a baptismal formula. In particular, I believe this is a baptismal formula based on Jesus’s baptism by John. The ordo in 1 Cor 6.11 is precisely the same as the ordo preserved and recorded in each of the three canonical versions of Jesus’s baptism: Jesus is baptized. The Spirit descends on him. The voice declares Sonship and well pleasedness.
“Washed. Sanctified. Justified.
“So, not only a clear baptism passage, but, in my reading, an early liturgical connection between Christian baptism and John’s baptism (of Jesus).”
