The key Obama quote:
“I’d just remind conservative commentators that for years what we’ve heard is, the biggest problem on the bench was judicial activism or a lack of judicial restraint — that an unelected group of people would somehow overturn a duly constituted and passed law . . . Well, this is a good example.”
And there’s another quote where he says it’s a “political decision,” that the law won’t work without the mandate, and the Supremes should consider that.
But both these quotes are in the context of a strongly-stated assertion that the law is constitutional.
It’s bad rhetoric on Obama’spart, but we need to be clear about what he said today.
