Exhortation, Third Epiphany

According to what has become the “traditional” interpretation of the Constitution, every American woman has the right to kill her unborn baby. Since the Roe v. Wade decision in January of 1973, over 45 million babies have been killed, and, though the abortion rate has slowed since 1990, more than a million babies are aborted each year. Nearly half the women in this country have an abortion before they are forty-five.

Abortion is a classic case of what Solomon describes as “oppression.” Oppression occurs when someone with power uses it for his own benefit, without considering the good of the powerless. This oppression is not merely tolerated, but celebrated in many quarters as an essential freedom. We have institutionalized oppression, enacted justice by the decree of the Supreme Court.

The Law says that the Lord will take up the cause of oppressed widows and orphans: “If you afflict him at all, and if he does cry out to Me, I will surely hear his cry; and My anger will be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless.” How much more will the Lord act to avenge the innocent blood of infants who cry silently as they are dismembered in the womb.

Pro-lifers have been warning that God will judge America for three decades, and yet in some ways things seem to be going smoothly: America has never had so much global power; the economy seems to be recovering; many Americans are wealthier than ever. Do no be deceived. God is not mocked. It may not come now; it may not come soon; but our God will not ignore the shedding of innocent blood. He will not overlook the oppression of the oppressor forever.
