Fired for Being Christian

A public-school wrestling coach in the heavily Muslim Dearborn, Michigan, is suing on the grounds that he was fired for being a Christin by his Muslim principal.

From a Thomas More Law Center press release about the case:

Trouble started between Fadlallah and Marszalek when one of Coach Marszalek’s assistant coaches, Trey Hancock, held a summer wrestling camp in which a Muslim camper converted to Christianity. Principal Fadlallah was so upset by the conversion that he punched the student and informed him he had disgraced his family.

I’m always a little leery of school cases, since the more one delves into them, the messier and less clear they get. But this may be the case that finally shows a straightforward prejudice against a Christian faculty member.

And if it is, what then? The secularists’ claim has always been that heavy bans on religion are necessary to stop oppression, and those secularists have always used religious minorities as their stalking horse for demanding such bans. Will they now separate themselves from the multiculturalists and demand the same bans when a member of the majority religion is oppressed?

Permit me to doubt it.
