Wilken offered a series of reflections on the meaning and value of friendship, based on theology, literature, and his own life. Robert Wilken is William R. Kenan Professor Emeritus of the History of Christianity at the University of Virginia and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute on Religion and Public Life, which publishes First Things. His books include The Spirit of Early Christian Thought and The Christians as the Romans Saw Them.
