Join us for a reception and discussion of The Light of Christ: An Introduction to Catholicism, by Thomas Joseph White, O. P., with First Things editor R. R. Reno. In an interview with First Things, Fr. White describes the book as an attempt to show “the deep inner intelligibility and realism of Christian truth claims” for a modern audience in a modern context, based on “the perennial teachings of the Church.”

Fr. Thomas Joseph White, O.P., is the Director of the Thomistic Institute at the Dominican House of Studies, Washington, D.C. Originally a native of southeastern Georgia, Fr. White studied at Brown University, where he converted to Catholicism. He did his doctoral studies at Oxford University, and is the author of The Light of Christ: An Introduction to Catholicism (CUA Press, 2017),Wisdom in the Face of Modernity: A Thomistic Study in Natural Theology (Sapientia Press, 2009, 2nd ed. 2016), The Incarnate Lord: A Thomistic Study in Christology (CUA Press, 2015) and Exodus (Brazos, 2016). He is co-editor of the academic journal Nova et Vetera and in 2011 was appointed an ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas. His most recent essay for First Things, “Catholicism in an Age of Discontent,” appeared in the November 2016 issue.
