For readers living in or near New York City: The Catholic Artists Society and the Thomistic Institute present a series of lectures on a Catholic understanding of the Arts. Eminent artists, theologians, and philosophers will be exploring the nature of art and its role in society. Hosted at the Catholic Center at New York University, every lecture will be followed by a reception and sung compline.

Rev. John Saward, a lecturer at Blackfriars Hall in Oxford and a prolific theologian is giving the first lecture, “The Poverty of the Church and the Beauty of the Liturgy” on Saturday, October 11, at 7:30pm.

Dear Reader,

You have a decision to make: double or nothing.

For this week only, a generous supporter has offered to fully match all new and increased donations to First Things up to $60,000.

In other words, your gift of $50 unlocks $100 for First Things, your gift of $100 unlocks $200, and so on, up to a total of $120,000. But if you don’t give, nothing.

So what will it be, dear reader: double, or nothing?

Make your year-end gift go twice as far for First Things by giving now.
