Pauls flat tax proposal would cut taxes on high earners while raising taxes on middle-class families. Using the Tax Policy Centers calculator, a family of four with two children earning $50,000 would see a more than $340 increase in their tax liability. It gets worse. The larger the family, the larger the tax increase. A family of five with three children earning 50,000 would see a $1477 increase in their tax liability . . . . The Republicans have a chance to become a more populist party, but they cant shed the perception that they are the party of the rich by proposing a combination of high-earner tax cuts and middle-class tax increases.
