Today’s unexpected story: from Metro , a thin tabloid distributed at the subway during morning rush hour, comes Jets’ Tebow Gets Support from “Jews for Tebow” . The group has 4,000 members, who according to a founder quoted in the story tend to like Tebow more for his football than for his religion, though his character (related to his religion, of course) seems to attract them as well. From the story:
When the Jets held an open session of training camp at their New Jersey facility this past August, there was a Hasidic Jew walking around the practice field wearing a black brimmed hat and the traditional tefillin wrapped around his arm. But surprisingly, he was wearing a T-shirt with Tebow’s face and superimposed long curls coming down off his head, making the clean-cut Tebow look Hasidic. The shirt read “Jews for Tebow.”“Tebow’s faith is who he is. Faith is also important to many Jews, as well as believers in every other religion,” said Tamara Rosov, a member of “Jews for Tebow” and a site administrator for the club’s Facebook page. “He feels his faith deeply and we respect that. It is not artificial or an act, it is genuinely who he is.”
The Jets still start the other quarterback, though, and probably wisely. Though they are 3 and 4 . . .
