New York City seems to be busy and bustling as always, despite the immanent October 21st apocalypse. Perhaps it is because Harold Camping s rapture prediction for May 21st didnt materialize that his revised end-of-the-world date (tomorrow) seems to have come upon us unnoticed. But Camping has more to back him up this time:
Pieces of a retired German satellite hurtling toward the atmosphere may crash to the earth this weekend. Parts of the satellite, which is the size of a minivan, will burn up during re-entry but up to 30 fragments weighing a total of 1.87 tons could crash into the Earth with a speed of up to 280 mph.
Whether Camping knew about this celestial Armaggedon vehicle is unknown. Either way, we at First Things will be celebrating the vigil of the apocalypse by going home and having dinner.
