The idea of the “the consensus” was always an anti science meme.  The notion that the only “so-called” scientists who had substantial doubts about the global warming “crisis” were on the evil oil company payrolls, was always just a way to try to stifle debate—a continuing tactic in certain circles.  The idea that all the “smart” scientists knew that we had to go Copenhagen was never true.  In fact, the attempt to prevent debate has hurt the alarmist cause.  People resent being informed that “the debate is over,” particularly in science, in which it never truly is.

Now, Nobel Prize winning physicist, Dr. Ivar Giaever, has resigned from American Physics Society because of its assertion that man-caused global warming “is incontrovertible.”  From the Fox News story:

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the 1973 winner of the Nobel Prize in physics, abruptly announced his resignation Tuesday, Sept. 13, from the premier physics society in disgust over its officially stated policy that “global warming is occurring.” The official position of the American Physical Society (APS) supports the theory that man’s actions have inexorably led to the warming of the planet, through increased emissions of carbon dioxide. Giaever does not agree — and put it bluntly and succinctly in the subject line of his email, reprinted at Climate Depot, a website devoted to debunking the theory of man-made climate change.

Gaiever seems to resent the hammer lock hold alarmists try impose on people who remain unconvinced.  From his email:
In the APS it is ok to discuss whether the mass of the proton changes over time and how a multi-universe behaves, but the evidence of global warming is incontrovertible? [Gaiever’s emphasis.] The claim (how can you measure the average temperature of the whole earth for a whole year?) is that the temperature has changed from ~288.0 to ~288.8 degree Kelvin in about 150 years, which (if true) means to me is that the temperature has been amazingly stable, and both human health and happiness have definitely improved in this ‘warming’ period.

Yes, I know that Gaiever isn’t a climatologist.  But neither are most of the supposed members of the so-called scientific consensus.

Here’s the point: GWHs tried to panic us through various means—such as insisting that the recent hurricane/tropical storm to hit the East Coast was about global warming—into accepting what many consider to be unacceptable policies, as if their desired redistribution of wealth, stifling of economic prosperity, increased energy prices, and the collection of power into an international technocracy was the equivalent of determining the molecular makeup of water.

It almost worked, but the jig is up.

Meanwhile, Al Gore’s latest propaganda maneuver—the 24 hour marathon—seems to be a flop.
