Warning!  If we rely primarily on government funding for health care, when funding is scarce, big problems arise.  We’ve dealt with this before in the context of the NHS, Medicaid cuts, and rationing by time in Canada.  But look at what is happening in Greece.  From the AP  story:

Police in central Athens on Thursday used pepper spray to disperse protesting doctors and state hospital staff, in the latest protest against public spending cuts. Riot police briefly clashed with scores of doctors and other demonstrators who tried to force their way into the Health Ministry. No injuries or arrests were reported.

Rioting doctors? (Yes, that’s overstated.) We really need to get our financial house in order before it is too late .  Greece is a warning.
