The San Fransisco Chronicle recently asked its political columnist Debra J. Saunders (a.k.a. Secondhand Smokette) to begin a blog. Debra calls it Token Conservative—for reasons that anyone familiar with the politics of Baghdad by the Bay will readily understand.
Debra is a wonderful writer with a fine wit who bats from the moderate right side of the plate. Unlike SHS, which is a niche blog, Debra tackles all things political, with occasional forays into areas we discuss, but more frequently dealing with matters beyond our scope here. In any event, if you like good political writing, check her out. Here’s a link to her first entry.
P.S.: Debra often receives strong reactions from readers. If you like—or dislike—what she writes, please don’t post about it here. There are comment opportunities to react to her at http://www.sfgate.com. Thanks.
You have a decision to make: double or nothing.
For this week only, a generous supporter has offered to fully match all new and increased donations to First Things up to $60,000.
In other words, your gift of $50 unlocks $100 for First Things, your gift of $100 unlocks $200, and so on, up to a total of $120,000. But if you don’t give, nothing.
So what will it be, dear reader: double, or nothing?
Make your year-end gift go twice as far for First Things by giving now.
