President Obama should be careful about what he says about the reasons Congress should vote for the overstuffed turkey that is known generically as Obamacare. From the story:
President Obama cast the House’s health care reform vote, expected to happen later today, in historic terms: “This is our moment to live up to the trust the American people have placed in us this is our moment to deliver I urge Congress to answer the call of the American people.”
I too very much wish the Congress would “answer the call of the American people.” If it did, Obamacare would be toast. The only reason it is going to pass the House is that the majority—having badly lost the national political debate—are sticking their collective fingers in the eyes of the American people. Hey, Moe!

So what will it be, dear reader: double, or nothing?
Make your year-end gift go twice as far for First Things by giving now.
