Today, February 8, is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America. No, I never served in any of the armed forces. But I was a Boy Scout. Ok, not the same. (And I only made Second Class before the small-town troop folded. One of the prices of small-town life, I . . . . Continue Reading »
If you enjoy history, and especially if you enjoy learning from history, I would recommend that you obtain a copy of The Soviet Story. (It is also available on Amazon.) This documentary is rich in “missing pieces” and helps explain many of the confusing issues of the mid and . . . . Continue Reading »
Ok, this is plainly political. But if it came about, I wouldn’t be able to post it. And that’s the real issue here — there is an actually amendment language that would cause this limit. I’m not kidding. It is reported in The Nation that certain leftists . . . . Continue Reading »
Katha Pollitt’s article at The Nation (Focus on the Fetus) continues the unchanging rhetoric of the Left’s support for death. She repeats the same old, tired arguments against choice. There is nothing new here. But there is something old that bears notice. She complains about the monies . . . . Continue Reading »
Have you ever wondered what might happen if what we call “personal” evangelism ever became “interpersonal” instead of just”spur-of-the-moment” evangelism? First, let’s look at the impersonal methods that we use:1. Event-based outreach. . . . . Continue Reading »
And you thought this was an easy one. You thought being a “social conservative” meant some sort of combination of pro-life, pro-family, pro-fiscal responsibility, pro-original intent, and so forth. It was and is a game changer. Citizens United v. FEC has changed, or should we rather say, re-established the ground rules. A corporation, whether it is non-profit or a for-profit, can speak against issues and the candidates who hold those positions.(a) Although the First Amendment provides that . . . . Continue Reading »
James Hanley has a post regarding abortion arguments over at Positive Liberty that is worth your time to read. It’s not that his position is anything out of the ordinary, but does allow the pro-life community to observe some of the distinctions that mark rational arguments and how they might . . . . There are few things that bring people together than these three: Work, Need, and Food. Few (by that I mean the minority) churches get the opportunity to built their facilities together or help rebuild houses. And few suffer need. (We might be better off if we grew closer to . . . . This movie has the cult following of Star Wars in 1978. It looks like people are going to see it multiple times. It is visually fascinating. But I’m less concerned about the technology and more concerned about the plot and theme. It has all the earmarks of ... a . . . . Continue Reading »
