A new poll finds that only 53% of Canadians believe in God. Out of that number, 28% identified as Protestants and 33% as Catholics. Of those who attend weekly religious services, 23% do not think that God exists.

So why do they bother going to church at all? Apparently, for purely pragmatic reasons: 90% of those who said they attend a religious service on a weekly basis agree that ‘religion helps them find answers to what’s going on in the world an in their own life.’

Also worth noting: 47% of Canadians believe that religion does more harm than good.

Maybe we can have some missionaries from Korea or Nigeria head up there to help evangelize the Canucks. They seem to need straightening out, yeah?*

* Back when my knowledge of Canada was gleaned from Bob and Doug McKenzie in Strange Brew , I believed Canadians ended every other sentence with an interrogative, “eh?” But having just finished watching the CBC series Intelligence I realize that “yeah?” is the new “eh?” However, I may be in error. If so, I’d appreciate suggestions on which Canadian-based TV shows provide the most accurate stereotype.
