Because my fascination with mathematics far exceeds my ability to understand the subject, I often find things that appear interesting (to me at least) but could be completely nuts. A prime example is a paper I stumbled across a few weeks ago called The Tau Manifesto . The manifesto is dedicated to explaining why “? is wrong” and advocates for “tau” (2? or C/r or 6.28 . . . ).
Since today is National Pi Day (really) and people’s interest in pi is higher (at least 3.14 percent higher) than any other day of the year, I thought I’d link to the essay and this related video.
CNN Tech has more on the tau vs. pi debate .
For those who can make sense of this discussion, does it make sense to replace pi with tau?
